Dr. Lynch and the Princeton Rejuvenation Institute provide a range of esthetic services appropriate for men and women of all ages. Restylane® is an injectable filler used to enhance facial features. It is made of synthetic hyaluronic acid, which is a complex sugar molecule naturally found in skin.
Although widely known as a method to improve the lips--usually by increasing the fullness, the hyaluronic acid is also used to improve the look of wrinkles on the face, and is classified as a dermal (skin) filler.
The treatment is not permanent, as the body gradually breaks down the Restylane® naturally, but the treatment does last up to about 18 months when used to treat laugh lines. Common areas on the face for placement include laugh lines, lipstick lines, marionette lines and the corners of the mouth. By placing the Restylane® in these areas, the skin is given a fuller, plumper look, which helps in ridding the appearance of wrinkles and lines. Most patients who enjoy nice Restylane® contour and shaping, will return every 12-18 months for maintenance and restoration.
As mentioned, Restylane® is often used as to enhance the appearance of lips. The treatment can last up to six months. This procedure may be especially attractive for those with thinner, smaller lips. Highly-animated areas, such as the lips, tend not to last as long as unanimated areas.
A "full correction" when used in conjunction with Restylane® means using Restylane® to improve the lines from the corners of the mouth to the nose. (Most wrinkles appear here, because of the amount of use the mouth gets. There's smiling, laughing and talking … all actions that include the muscles around the mouth.)
There will be some bruising and swelling following treatment. Although this normally lasts only a few days, a Restylane® treatment should not be planned immediately before an event or outing such as a wedding or major social event.
